Blake ~ 17 & 18 months

We're back into the swing of the school year and it's time for a Blake update..a little (lot) late!

18 Month Doctor Stats
We went to the doctor a few weeks after you actually turned 18 months (which is part of the reason this is posted so late!) and here are your most recent stats:
Weight: 27 pounds, 6 ounces (85th percentile)
Height: 34 inches (89th percentile)
Head Circumference: 19 inches (72nd percentile)
You really jumped up the weight scale this time!

Physical Development
Lately we've noticed your features are starting to change. You do not look very babyish anymore. You definitely look more like a two year old (in my opinion) than your 1 year old self. Recently a stranger asked me if you were 3 and another if you were in preschool!(!!!!!!)
Tooth 5 and tooth 6 are pushing in on either side of your two front teeth.
YOU ARE WALKING!
One of your first few days walking!
Shortly after the last post you took off walking. I wrote the exact date down in your baby book but I want to say it was August 13. We were out and about shopping and having fun that day and, of course, I put you in your cute Puma shoes that always slipped off when we walked with you but I figured you wouldn't walk...and of course you started walking consistently that day ;)
You are getting close to actual running...
Your feet have grown...quickly (see memories section)
Your hair is still very blonde and we have to get it cut every 5-6 weeks. Your hair costs way more to maintain than mom's!!! I even had to buy the good (expensive) hairspray to keep your hair in place, hahaha!

Vocabulary
You still say all of the words from the previous post. Here are some new additions...
Poopa/Boopa = Opa
Za = Pizza
Biper = Diaper
Cow
Sheep
ROAR
Sa = show or ipad
eeth = Teeth (brushing your teeth)
Noni = milk (not sure how that one came about)
Juice
Kitty
Meow
Ank Ooo = Thank you

Curiously, you do not know the word "no" (knock on wood) and I'm totally okay with it.

You know SO MANY words and surprise people with how much you talk. I'm sure I missed a ton of the words you really know here because there are a lot.

One day you completely surprised me: you can count....what?! I was buying table cloths for our big pig roast coming up and I laid them on the floor of the store by your stroller to count them. I was counting out loud and said, "one", and you said "oo" (two). I said "two", then you said "free" (three) and "or" (four). I had to say five....but seriously!? I'm filling out your application to Harvard now! Hahaha! Grandma said potty training may be a prerequisite. :)

You love to point and identify people and things, for example, around the dinner table you will point to each person and say "mom, daddy, mama (grandma), bupa/poopa (grandpa/opa), yler (Tyler)". You also will point out ears, eyes, mouths, noses (beep beeps), belly buttons and hair.

Memories from months 17 & 18:
-Mom bought a different soap for your diapers and, um, messed them up. Too much soap caused them to not be absorbent and for almost two days you were leaking through EVERYTHING. I figured this out quickly and treated the diapers to get the soap out. We're buying the powder version from now on. #lessonlearned You looked awfully silly at church in your sweatpants, dress shirt, and crocs.....
-Speaking of crocs....you feet seem to have just gone through a major growth spurt. So yes, you wore crocs to church because in like 1 week (I kid not) all of your shoes were suddenly too tight. Grandma got you some new Sperry's so we're all good now. :) The world of Size 5 and up shoes is so much more expansive! Mom is excited! Hahaha!
-We gave you a chicken curry dish for dinner a couple times and you really like it. The funny thing about it is you INSIST on picking the peas off of your spoon and putting them in your mouth one by one, apparently savoring each pea, before taking what's on the spoon. It cracks us up!
-You are getting better at eating real vegetables. Mommy gives you raw green beans and you suck the guts out and then spit out the skin. You still eat a lot of baby food vegetables and squeeze-y vegetables because you do not have enough teeth to bite into anything hard like a carrot. (And mom is not going to cook carrots for you when I can get the baby food/squeeze version.....sorry.)
Chewing on a green bean
Dipping a bean in yogurt...yuck!
-You love it when I make silly faces at you and try to mimic me. Our current fave is the scrunched up eyes and mouth look. :)
-Your obsessed with making the elephant sound, and all other animal sounds really, but, mostly the elephant. You're good at it too. Much better than mommy.
-Your Great Grandpa passed away recently and it was the first funeral visitation you've been to since you were very little. You walked up to the coffin with grandma, pointed, and said, "night, night". So sweet.
-You seem to be testing the limits of "temper tantrums" lately. We put a stop to it immediately. Hopefully you will learn soon that this behavior is unacceptable.
-The only show you will watch on TV (Netflix) is BabyGenius Sing-a-longs. All other shows are inferior and not to be watched, in your mind. You sway back and forth to all of the songs and sometimes try to copy the motions. It's adorable. You also love the "Animal Alphabet" on the iPad.

-Mommy is already thinking about your future big boy room out of her pure obsession with shopping and decorating. Based on what you like I'm thinking animals, dinosaurs, or Star Wars (oh my word, I really just typed that). You are not into planes, trains, or cars yet. I'm sure that will come. But I'm also just tempted to decorate the room a la Pinterest. Daddy brings me back to Earth....especially since we aren't even thinking about transitioning you yet! Haha!
-You will try to sit on anything that is possible to sit on in the house. You are constantly trying to sit on boxes of toys, the footrest of your highchair, us, if we're sitting/laying on the floor. I think  a PBK Anywhere Chair is in order!

-We bought you a potty seat (ring)! We've sat you on it a couple times. You hated it. Nothing happened. Haha! Mommy and Daddy just want to be prepared AS SOON as you are. Hint Hint. ;)
-You always want "dow" (down). Out of someone's arms, out of the stroller, Onya, carseat, doesn't matter. You want down.
-You are starting to eat with a spoon and fork more and more by yourself...when mommy can handle the mess. :)
-You love singing songs with us, especially in the car. Your favorites are, "The Wheels on the Bus", "Old McDonald had a Farm", and the "Roll Over" song.
-We got your 18 month photos taken....that also required a lot of singing and corralling. But they turned out SO cute!

And here's SO many pictures!!! Quite a few are from the end of summer break.

P.S. If you made it this far....thank you! This particular blog post had a thousand technical difficulties along the way and it's only because I truly LOVE documenting Blake's life (and looking back) that I kept working on this post....ughhhh! :) Here's hoping for a better experience with my next post!
